Alumni InfoBees Find Home on the Road
"(March 12,, 2008) St. Ambrose coach Bill Gleeson announced that the Bees will once again play a regular season home match on the campus of Br. Rice H.S. in Chicago, IL vs. the Crusaders of Cardinal Stritch University on Wednesday, March 26th at 7:00 PM.
Gleeson, in his second year as a head coach, is looking forward to the opportunity to have his team play at his high school alma mater again. "I am excited for the opportunity to play at Brother Rice, and I won't be nearly as nervous to coach in front of my high school (Brother Paul Ickes) and club coaches (Dennis Bergstedt) as last year! They have both been great mentors to me as a head coach."
The Bees certainly have been following in the winning ways of the Crusaders. "Last year, in his first year as Head Coach, Bill took his team to the national NAIA Tournament. This year, the Bees are ranked in the top 5 of the NAIA national pool with recent wins over higher ranked Lindenwwood and Missouri Baptist in the NAIA and a win over NCAA Division I Harvard at Harvard" stated Br. Paul Ickes of Br. Rice.
The 2008 Fighting Bees squad has more connections to Brother Rice... Seniors Joe Bara and Keith Gloude, sophomore Rob Brannigan, and freshman Scott Manthei all played for Brother Rice. Gleeson said "All but one of our players are from the Chicago area, so we are excited to be able to play a match where most of the families can attend. When we play at home, we get good support, but here in Chicago, we think we can get an even bigger crowd."
A small entry fee will be charged, with all proceeds going to Brother Rice." www.sau.edu Wojcik '96 and Crinion, '02... Serving Our Country
